Fish oil, necessary for everyone.
Athletes are generally more aware of good nutrition than non-athletes. So you know that eating fatty fish every week is good for you. But do you also know why?
Fatty fish provides us with healthy fats; a.o. herring, salmon, sardines and mackerel are packed with omega-3 fatty acids. Of these, EPA and DHA are the most important. EPA and DHA are important for, among other things, regulating the immune system, hormone production, brain function and the heart and blood vessels and they have an anti-inflammatory effect. Omega-3 fatty acids should undoubtedly be on everyone's menu.
If you do not like fish or you have a higher need for fish oil (for example during pregnancy or illness), then it is good to meet your need through dietary supplements. A good fish oil supplement is pure and contains, in addition to EPA and DHA, vitamin E as an antioxidant.
In addition to fish oil, you can also choose krill oil as a supplement. Krill is a shrimp-like crustacean that lives in the cold polar waters of Antarctica. Krill oil is naturally pure, rich in antioxidants and low in toxins. Because krill oil consists mainly of phospholipids, it is absorbed better and faster than fish oil.
If you are a vegan or vegetarian, you cannot get enough complete omega-3 because of the choice of your diet. Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA) is the vegetable omega-3 and is found in, for example, walnuts and linseed oil. An important part on your menu, but it cannot replace EPA and DHA. ALA can be converted in the body to EPA and DHA, but unfortunately the ratio of this is not high enough and this conversion is also very difficult for many people. You could supplement this with krill oil or for the vegans with algae oil.
